Learn more at marathon.health ABOUT THE JOB The Staff Engineer role for the Portal and Applications will lead technical strategy and architectural standard adherence across multiple projects and domains. You will drive system design, mentor engineers, and influence the long-term technical direction of the organization. Your input in cross-team technical initiatives will help drive alignment between team’s software engineers and peer teams such as data integration and business platform engineering. You will conduct, guide technical decision making, investigate complex technical challenges and make design decisions to remediate tech debt. Finally, in addition to traditional engineering leadership, you will help integrate Agentic AI tools into the development lifecycle — enhancing productivity, code quality, and system design through intelligent automation. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Evolve and strengthen technical architecture for patient and provider facing platforms ensuring scalability, security, and maintainability. Champion AI-Augmented Engineering practices by monitoring code generation, automated pull request reviews, and unit test validation for code coverage are in alignment with spec driven development as defined by architectural best practices. Drive adoption of best practices in API design, data modeling, and system integration across web and mobile platforms. Ensure consistent architectural patterns across React, React Native, and backend services. Provide technical oversight for web portals and mobile apps to ensure key metrics such as Deployment frequency, Lead time for changes, meant time to restore, and change failure rate are optimal. Partner with DevOps to optimize CI/CD pipelines, container orchestration, and system observability using application performance monitoring tools Act as a technical liaison between engineering, business platform, and architecture teams Conduct code reviews, design sessions, and technical coaching to the development team Influence engineering culture by promoting technical excellence, ownership, and continuous improvement Evaluate emerging technologies and frameworks to improve platform capabilities and developer productivity Lead technical spikes and proofs of concepts for new features or architectural changes QUALIFICATIONS Bachelors or Masters Degree in computer science or related field and 8+ years of software development experience including 3+ years in a technical leadership role or equivalent combination of education and experience. Hands-on experience with integrating or working alongside Agentic AI tools such as Github CoPilot, Claude, or similar AI assistance in software development workflows Proven expertise with React, RESTful API’s, relational databases, React Native, GitHub with a focus system design, scalability, and reliability Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, trunk-based development and cloud platforms (AWS) DESIRED ATTRIBUTES Familiarity with project management, software development, and ticketing tools (Azure DevOps, Freshworks) AWS Certified Developer certification or equivalent Familiarity with containerization such as docker and cloud-based observability platform such as new relic Strong knowledge of software architecture, design patterns, and scaling distributed systems. Pay Range: $170,000 - $195,000/yr The actual offer may vary dependent upon geographic location and the candidate’s years of experience and/or skill level.
